A 65-year-old woman was arrested after more than 30-pounds of methamphetamine was found in her vehicle when she went through the I-8 checkpoint in Pine Valley on Wednesday, U.S. Border Patrol said.
A K-9 team alerted Border Patrol agents when the woman went through the checkpoint at 7:14 a.m on Wednesday, U.S. Border Patrol said. When the vehicle, a 2006 Ford Taurus, was searched the drugs were discovered in a hidden compartment built into the rear seat. The compartment held a black bag filled with 28 bundles of methamphetamine, according to a press release from the U.S. Border Patrol.
The bundles weighed 30.56 pounds and had an estimated street value of $458,000, according to the press release.
The case was turned over to a Drug Enforcement Administration task force for further investigation.
