No sign of suspected smugglers in $7.2 million marijuana bust

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) – Customs and Border Protection officers and West Desert Task Force members seized $7.2 million worth of marijuana in a region of the Tohono O’odham Nation early Wednesday.Detection technology led joint enforcement operations to the discovery of approximately 683 bundles of marijuana in five abandoned vehicles, weighing nearly 14,500 pounds, near the village of Ventana.

The narcotics will be turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration and the five vehicles were seized. Officials are still searching for the suspected smugglers.
