SALTON CITY — U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a suspected drug smuggler and seized more than $1.26 million in methamphetamine hidden in a truck bed early Wednesday.Around 5 a.m., a 41-year-old male driving a dark grey 2007 Ford F-150 truck approached the Highway 86 checkpoint between Westmorland and Salton City.
A Border Patrol canine detection team alerted to the vehicle, and during secondary inspection, agents found 11 packages of methamphetamine hidden inside two non-factory compartments in the pickup’s bed. The methamphetamine had a combined weight of 39.4 pounds with an estimated street value of $1,260,860.

The suspected smuggler, a U.S. citizen, was taken into custody and turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration along with the drugs and vehicle for further investigation.
