SALTON CITY — El Centro Border Patrol agents assigned to the Indio station seized 6.7 pounds of methamphetamine at the Highway 86 checkpoint between Westmorland and Salton City around noon on Thursday.
A drug sniffing dog —part of a “canine detection team” — singled out a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 42-year-old man.
After inspection of the vehicle, agents discovered a black package containing the drugs hidden in a battery compartment under the rear passenger seat.
The man, a U.S. citizen, was arrested and turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
The 6.7 pounds of methamphetamine has a street value of $214,000.
