U.S. Border Patrol Agents Seize More Than $700K Worth of Cocaine at I-8 Checkpoint

Pine Valley, Calif.—U.S. Border Patrol agents apprehended a man at the Interstate 8 checkpoint near Pine Valley Sunday morning with cocaine in his vehicle.

At approximately 9:30 a.m., agents encountered a 21-year-old male Mexican national driving a 2008 Honda Civic as it arrived at the checkpoint. A Border Patrol K-9 alerted to the vehicle and the Civic was referred for a secondary inspection. Agents requested and received permission to search the vehicle and discovered 28 bundles of cocaine hidden behind the vehicle’s rocker panels. The bundles weighed 70.20 pounds and had an estimated street value of $772,200.

The suspected smuggler and narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation. The vehicle was seized by the U.S. Border Patrol.
