CALEXICO – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested a woman after finding about $384,000 worth of methamphetamine hidden in the vehicle she was driving at the Calexico downtown Port of Entry Sunday afternoon.
Around 1:30 p.m., a canine unit alerted to a grey 2005 Ford Freestyle as the driver waited for inspection, and the vehicle was referred to secondary inspection.
Further examination led to the discovery of 32 wrapped packages of methamphetamine hidden inside a non-factory compartment under the center console. The packages had a combined weight of 32 pounds.
The driver, a 45-year-old female Mexican citizen and resident of Mexicali, was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents for further processing and later transported to Imperial County Jail.
CBP seized the vehicle and drugs.
