Hidalgo, Texas— U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Hidalgo International Bridge seized alleged methamphetamine valued at approximately $485,000 and arrested a man from Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico in connection with the failed smuggling attempt.

The seizure/arrest occurred on Tuesday morning, May 21 when CBP officers working at the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge encountered a black 2006 Nissan Sentra driven by a 32-year-old male United States citizen who resides in Reynosa. The driver and lone occupant who arrived from Reynosa presented a U.S. birth certificate to a CBP officer who proceeded to refer him to secondary for further inspection. In the process of the secondary inspection and with the use of a non-intrusive imaging system, officers discovered packages of suspected narcotics concealed within the vehicle. Officers removed and seized a total of 32 packages weighing approximately 14.68 kilograms (32.36 pounds) of alleged methamphetamine and seized the vehicle as well.

CBP arrested the adult male and subsequently released him to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents for further investigation.

“Once again our frontline officers have intercepted a significant amount of hard narcotics through exceptional teamwork and the utilization of all available tools and resources,” said Efrain Solis Jr., port director, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas.
